There are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of ways to make money by writing content online. These days, you don’t have to have experience, and you don’t even have to be a great writer. I found an article that discusses making money by writing online movie reviews. Sometimes things like this can be shady, but I actually found this article really helpful and informative.
In the field of film writing, a great genre to start with is a movie review. As a writer, you don’t have to start out by analyzing the entire scope of cinema history and putting your own spin on it. Instead, you’re just starting with one, simple, self-contained film. How far you want to go with it is up to you, but a movie review is a solid first step on the ladder. Writers can submit reviews to local newspapers, but they can also put their work online, and perhaps earn a few bucks along the way. Not many, but a few.
The article talked about a few strategies for making this happen. One is to write for review sites and earn royalties on the traffic every month–that is, the amount of people who visit your page. The writer referenced Squidoo, a website that allows you to create free web pages (and also collect a portion of the royalties from the advertising on the site, which seems pretty cool) and SharedReviews.com, which is primarily for reviewing products but includes reviewing DVDs.
There are other ways to make some money by writing online reviews, but I’ll let you read the article. It’s pretty neat, and I recommend it for anyone who’s interested in writing movie reviews themselves, if only to scrape up a little bit of pocket money.
In the film writing industry, opportunities like these seem pretty valuable to me because they are a simple, low-stakes way to gain practice writing movie reviews, getting your name out there, and building up your portfolio. But I could see how some people would be opposed to the ease of this process. If the common everyday guy (or girl) is writing the reviews, what makes them special or meaningful? What are your thoughts on this?
