Writing Styles are Different, and They Should Be

I found a good article online that talks about the importance of understanding different writing styles. If you don’t tailor your style to different writing and rhetorical situations, then your content probably won’t change, but the effectiveness of your work will. The writer gives a few examples of different genres–personal blogs, online business bogs, profession writing, and scientific writing–and briefly discusses differences in their style elements. There’s also a video on the page that talks about formal and informal writing, knowing when and how to use each one. Something I found interesting was that the writer of the article wrote from experience–he operates a personal blog, an online business blog, and he frequently does scientific writing. Dabbling in a variety of writing situations (something we do in our classes anyway) seems like a great strategy to not only understand different writing styles, but to practices witching between them as well.
